that maturity has more to do with
what types of experiences you've had
and what you've learned from them
and less to do with how many
birthdays you've celebrated.

their dreams are unlikely or outlandish.
Few things are more humiliating, and
what a tragedy it would be
if they believed it.

that your family won't always
be there for you. It may seem funny,
but people you aren't related to
can take care of you and love you
and teach you to trust people again.
Families aren't biological.

that no matter how good a friend is,
they're going to hurt you
every once in a while
and you must forgive them for that.

that it isn't always enough
to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes you have to learn
to forgive yourself.

that our background and circumstances
may have influenced who we are,
but we are responsible for who we become.

that sometimes when my friends fight,
I'm forced to choose sides

it doesn't mean they do.

the individual ahead of their actions.

that we don't have to change friends
if we understand that friends change.

that writing, as well as talking,
can ease emotional pains.

that the paradigm we live in
is not all that is offered to us.

that credentials on the wall
do not make you a decent human being.

that the people you care most about in life
are taken from you too soon.

that although the word "love"
can have many different meanings,
it loses value when overly used.

I've learned -
that it's hard to determine
where to draw the line
between being nice and
not hurting people's feelings
and standing up for what you believe.

long after you think you can't.

Ive learnt

Sometimes I need to believe
I have done all I can
given all Ive got and its
OK to walk away

That by practicing acceptance
even when its hard to accept
The struggle to free myself ceases
and serenity sits in the here and now
The OK moment
All may still be the same, but Ive changed

That I can survive
yet life itself is not just about survival
its about growth, movement, reaching out
blooming and shedding
honouring its rythmn of now to the fullest


To appreciate the abundance, the beauty
that nourishes
The grasp of my grandsons finger round mine
the unexpected hug that takes me by surprise
a smile unasked for, the ocean waves breaking on the shore
the light of the full moon against the dark skies, the flowers, the colour.
The I love you's, I care's, Im sorry's I've both said and listened to
The trust, the giving,the recieving, the sharing at times unspoken
that knows together we have the power to heal

Ive learnt to come to trust that still small voice inside of me
